Samoan Language Commission of American Samoa

Established by Public Law 37-9 (A.S.C.A. § 16.1701 and following).

The Samoan Language Commission was established to:

“Generally promote, preserve and give guidance to the furtherance of the Samoan language, in particular the language as a living and ordinary means of communication, intrinsically related to the culture as a living heritage and wealth of knowledge and skills that is transmitted to nourish diversity and human creativity.”

Composition of the Commission

Under A.S.C.A. § 16.1702 the Commission has eleven members: one from each of the eight institutions listed here, and three members of the public “with sufficient knowledge and skill in the Samoan language.”
